Axios is a small Christian ministry in Southern Albania that was set up by Felix and Bona Humberstone. Southern Albanians are familiar with the Greek word Axios, meaning ‘Worthy’ or ‘In Keeping With’ ... the basic idea is that a life that has accepted the gospel of Christ expresses itself in the form of a lifestyle which follows what the gospel teaches. Such a life then takes on a personality that reflects the character of the Lord Jesus Christ. This personality shines out as an example to others of the love of Jesus
Mission
Who we are
We (Felix and Bona) have been married since 2019. Bona grew up near Delvine in Albania, in a rural village called Varfaj, working as a shepherdess. She had not heard of God or the gospel until 2004 when two Dutch sisters came to share the gospel to the villages. Bona's brother became a Christian shortly after the missionaries arrived and she was curious to understand what had happened to him. She heard about Jesus and salvation, began meeting with the local pastor and became a Christian in the summer of 2006. She says she can't describe the joy she felt that day when Jesus came to save her, and still has that joy with her today. As a follower of Jesus, she spent several years serving in the local church in Delvine. Since coming to the UK, she has worked in Barton Church, Canterbury, as a children’s worker and also as an empowerment worker for ‘Hope into Action.’
Felix is from Brighton England, but his youth was characterised by a chaotic, internationally nomadic lifestyle involving homelessness and 17 years of heavy substance addiction. In 2016 he gave his life to Christ from a hospital bed in Germany and God, through faith in Jesus and the help and support of many people, has delivered him. Felix then went on to assist a chaplain in a prison in Southern England whilst being employed by the Home Office, working with migrants (many of whom are Albanian).
